Charles R. “Chuck” Sluder was born on Tuesday, January 5, 1943, in Pacific Junction, Iowa. He was the son of Claude Arthur and Mary (Good) Sluder. Chuck spent his childhood in Missouri, Idaho, California, Oregon and Kansas, moving to Ottawa in Franklin County, Kansas in 1985, where he made his home until his death on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at the age of sixty-six years. Chuck was a service technician for Heartland Fire & Safety from March of 1998 to retirement in December of 2005. He was a lifetime member of North American Fishing Club. Chuck was an outgoing, compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family and visiting with his friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and bowling. Chuck is survived by his companion, Aimee Black of the home; two sons, Steven Sluder of Nebraska, David Scott Sluder and his wife, Dana, of Ohio; daughter, Teresa Sluder of Arizona; five brothers, Arthur “Corkie” Sluder and his wife, Tammy, of Arkansas, Rick Sluder of Kansas, Bill Owen and his wife, Geri, of Kansas, Tom Owen of Kansas, Donald Owen and his wife, Wanda, of Kansas; two sisters, Marie Crooks and her husband, Harold, of Kansas, Thelma Russell and her husband, Jack, of Missouri; and fourteen grandchildren, Ashley, Keegan, Hailey, Hannah, Joshua, Angela, Augi, Emerald, Mercedes, Isaac, Mikayla, Darion, Joseph and Eve. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Claude “Shorty” Sluder. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Agricola, Kansas. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Sluder from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening.
