Charles Peter Ulanski, loving husband, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend, passed away on December 12, 2017 at Miami County Medical Center. Chuck was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan on August 19, 1952 to Chester and Virginia Ulanski. Chuck loved life, his family, and he loved his Elks family. He grew up with a hammer in his hands and became a master roofer after starting to carry shingles for his uncle and grandpa. There wasn’t a roof that he couldn’t lay, and he never shied away from any ladder or pitch. Chuck would often stop and witness God’s amazing skies and backdrop. Chuck loved his Kansas Elks family and was so very proud to be a part of this fraternal organization. He was a member of the Osawatomie Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #921 where he served as the Exalted Ruler, Trustee, and several other chairs. Chuck was so proud to also be able to serve as the District Deputy of the Northeast Region of the Kansas Elks for two years. He loved everything about the Elks and was always one of the first to volunteer. Chuck believed in paying it forward and spent the last couple of years as a member of the Miami County Cancer Foundation. He recently stepped down from the board of directors because he wanted more time for his family and the Elks. Chuck had recently joined the Knights of Columbus through the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola, Kansas. Chuck always placed great value on family. His family meant everything to him. Chuck was especially proud of his sons Patrick, Charlie, and Tommy because they were making their way in this world and raising their families. Chuck often described his daughters Kelly, Jen, and Jill as strong-willed, beautiful and so intelligent. Chuck married his wife, Karen on June 19, 1998 with his family witnessing the love he had for his wife. Chuck was Karen’s rock and she was his. He was a man of few words, simple, honest, and hardworking. he spent many hours doing his woodworking, riding his new Harley Davidson motorcycle and planting flowers in the backyard. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Virginia Ulanski, his Auntie, Dolores Cherkun, and a brother Chester. Chuck is survived by his wife, Karen, of their home in Paola, children Kelly (Mario), Patrick (Jenny), Charlie (Brittany), Tommy (Alyssa), Jen and Jill. Chuck also leaves behind his grandchildren Mirannda, Ethan, Eli, Evie, Connor, Ethan, Natalie, Aria, Hayley, Hayden, and Marcus and his sisters Christina (Eric) Nattrass and Cassie Ulanski and her sons Christopher and Tony. Visitation will be 5:00 -7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 E. Chippewa St., Paola, KS. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks #921.
