Charles N. `Charlie` Bowling, 62, of Ottawa, Kansas, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at his residence in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on Thursday, June 7, 1945, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Norman and Shirley (Sellers) Bowling. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. Charlie graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1963 and attended Ottawa University for one year. From February of 2000 to present, Charlie was Administrative Assistant for the office of the Franklin County Attorney. From October of 1968 to December of 1999, he was with the Ottawa Police Department, also known as Ottawa Department of Public Safety, retiring as Captain, earning many certificates and awards including Northwestern University Certificate of Recognition. He was also a dedicated worker with the D.A.R.E. Program, S.W.A.T. Team, and Franklin County Sheriff`s Reserve. Charlie served as a Sgt. in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, during the Vietnam War. His tour of duty included Alaska, where he was in the Division of Secret Service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa. On January 4, 1969, Charlie was united in marriage with Eileen Miller in Scipio, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his parents-Norman & Shirley (Sellers) Bowling of Ottawa, Kan. a brother-Gary Bowling & his wife, Julee, of Ottawa, Kan. Sister-in-law-Mary Beth Bowling of Ottawa, Kan., Niece-Jenny Jackson of Erving, Texas, Nephew-Blaine Bowling of Ottawa, Kan. Nephew-Ryan Bowling of Ottawa, Kan. He was preceded in death by His brother Rex Bowling. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Bowling at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 Wednesday evening followed by family visitation from 7 to 8:00 p.m. CEMETERY: St. Boniface Cemetery in Scipio, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Church Endowment Fund or Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
