Charles Lee Bennett

Charles Lee Bennett was born on Friday, August 22, 1924, in Portage Des Sioux, Missouri. He was the son of Charles F. and Ursla (Wachs) Bennett. He lived in Kinsley, Kansas from 1985 to 1999, moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at the age of eighty-one years. Charles graduated from St. Charles (Missouri) High School with the class of 1942. He was an auctioneer and antique dealer, for many years, of various antiques, including antique cars and parts. He was a member of United Congregational Church in Kinsley; Antique Automobile Club of America; and Kaiser Car Club of America. Charles was an avid NASCAR fan. In fact, he raced stock cars in his younger days. He was a devoted family man who loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed following their sporting events and 4-H activities and was also actively involved in Boy Scouts. On July 13, 1973, Charles was united in marriage with Marilyn Jarvis in Lancaster, Missouri. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two daughters, Shirley Casey and her husband, Dan, of Ellisville, Missouri, Deborah Lloyd of Cedar Falls, Iowa; seven sons, Mark Bennett and his wife, Debbie, of El Cajon, California, Dennis Bennett and his wife, Cheryl, of El Cajon, California, Theodore Bennett and his wife, Tanna, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nicholas Bennett of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gordon Bennett of Lamar, Colorado, Michael Bennett and his wife, Carey, of Baldwin City, Kansas, Bryan Bennett of Prairie Village, Kansas; two sisters, Dorothy Davis and her husband, Donald, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Clare Reese of St. Peters, Missouri; brother, Harold Bennett of St. Charles, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles R. Bennett; daughter, Beverly Cavanaugh; three brothers; and one sister. IN STATE & VISITATION: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Bennett from l:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
