Charles Frederick (Fred) Thomas age 92 of Kansas City, MO passed away February 10, 2011, with all his family by his side. Fred Thomas was born in Louisburg, KS., to Asa and Mary A. (Legner) Thomas on July 15, 1918. Fred exceeded in drama during his high school and college years. Fred attended Emporia State Teacher"s College and the University of Kansas. He soon met and courted the love of his life"Betty L. Rhoades of Almena, Kansas. They would have been married 63 years this year. He ultimately heeded the call to serve his country in the military. Captain Thomas served in the Army/Air Force in World War II and in the Korean War. Fred approached each task as if impossible to fail. If he were going after Moby Dick he would bring along the tartar sauce! Fred and Betty had five children. David Frederick, Catherine Bernice, Peggy Michele, Thomas Rhoades and Lance Charles. Fred was devoted to his wife and his children. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family. Following his service to the country he pursued a career in business. His success in this field afforded him the knowledge and expertise to publish an instructional book "Old Tricks for New Dogs". In addition he also was successful in patenting several inventions. Fred, an avid KU fan, never missed an opportunity to watch all games. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Mary Thomas and brothers Joseph E., George,T., Asa G (Bud) and sister Nora Catherine Kirby. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Betty Lorraine. Their children and spouses: David Frederick and Pamela Thomas; Catherine B. and Brian Esterly,; Peggy and David Sexton; Thomas R. Thomas; and Lance and Michelle Thomas. He also leaves his brother Edwin G. Thomas, Louisburg, KS. Grandchildren Steve Esterly, Timothy Esterly, Seth Thomas, David Sexton, Maggie Sexton, Tennyson Thomas and Melissa Thomas. Along with nephews Gregory, Edward and Jeffrey and a host of other nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 15, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 606 S. Elm Street Louisburg, KS. Burial to follow in the St. Mary"s Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to mass. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Louisburg VFW Post 7348. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 606 S.
