Charles Edward McDaniels, 77, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Ottawa, 235 S Hickory St., Ottawa, Kansas 66053. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 22, 2024, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Charles was born on Friday, December 20, 1946, in Gardner, Kansas. He was the youngest of five children to James Cree and Elmira Jane (Herman) McDaniels. He spent his early childhood growing up in Wellsville, Kansas. Charles moved to Baldwin City, Kansas, in 1953. He met his future wife, Joan Hutchinson while attending Baldwin High School. Charles graduated from Baldwin High School with the class of 1964.

He was united in marriage to Joan McDaniels December 18, 1965, in Baldwin City, Kansas. From this union they had three children; Kim, Becky, and Ryan. Charles worked as a forklift operator for ICL in Lawrence, Kansas, for over 45 years, before retiring.

He was an avid outdoorsman that had a passion for fishing and golfing, having achieved seven holes-in-one in his lifetime. Charles and Joan loved attending their kids and grandkids sporting events and activities. He often spent his time coaching his sons baseball team, sharing his knowledge with others. Charles was witty and had a great sense of humor. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Charles loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren most of all.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elmira McDaniels; brother, Paul McDaniels; and one sister, Doris McDaniels.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan McDaniels; two daughters, Kim (Marvin) Shaffer, and Becky (Douglas) Cruce; one son, Ryan (Jenna) McDaniels; two brothers, Fred and Junior McDaniels; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
