Charles E. “Chuck” McCurdy, age 70, of Williamsburg, Kansas, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on Monday, December 4, 1939, in Garnett, Kansas. He was the son of Clifford M. and Sylvia Irene (Ashburn) McCurdy. Charles lived in the Williamsburg area most of his life, except for about ten years living in Hutchinson. He graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1959. Charles worked as a machine operator for Farmland Industries in Hutchinson, Kansas. He also did maintenance work at Parmalee Products following his military service, built guard rails for Collins Brothers Construction of Williamsburg, and was Service Manager at Williamsburg CO-OP for several years. Charles served in the United States Army from April 2, 1963, to March 31, 1969, obtaining the rank of Specialist 4, receiving awards and commendations including Sharpshooter (Rifle), Expert (Rifle M-14), Good Conduct Medal, and 1st Class Gunner (3.5 RL). Charles was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, Williamsburg, Kansas. Charles was united in marriage with Lorraine Beatrice Bishop in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on October 27, 1982. He is surrvived by his: Son-Johnny L. McCurdy and his wife, Lenice, of Osawatomie, Kansas; Brother-David McCurdy of Williamsburg, Kansas; Brother-Jimmy McCurdy and his wife, Kay, of Ottawa, Kansas; Brother-Billy McCurdy and his wife, Lynn, of Waverly, Kansas; Brother-Denny McCurdy and his wife, Barbara, of Quenemo, Kansas; Brother-Dale McCurdy and his wife, Peggy, of Melvern, Kansas; Sister-Debbie Clark and her husband, Jerry, of LaCygne, Kansas; Sister-Sharon Brown and her husband, Louis, of Ottawa, Kansas; Sister-Carol Prather and her husband, Donald, of Richmond, Kansas. Chuck is preceded in death by his Father-Clifford M. McCurdy; Mother-Sylvia Irene (Ashburn) McCurdy; Wife-Lorraine Beatrice (Bishop) McCurdy; Brother-Tommy McCurdy; Brother-Francis McCurdy; Brother-Steven McCurdy. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet for Graveside Services at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Williamsburg, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010. IN STATE: Mr. McCurdy will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, where the family will meet with friends 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
