Charles E. Brixey

Charles Brixey, age 75, of Paola, passed away June 14, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center. Charles was born September 24, 1940, in the small town of Yonkers, Oklahoma, to Edgar Brixey and Katy Novella Holland Brixey. Charles was the middle child of three including his two brothers Laddie and Gary Brixey. It was here with his loving family that he lived until enlisting in the military at the age of 19 on April 8, 1959. It was through his service to our country that he was able see the world, meet new people, and make life-long friends. Never did he ever speak of his time in the military with regret; in fact, he was always ready with a story of a time he and his friends caused some mischief with the locals where they were stationed, and after many years of dedicated service and a little troublemaking Charles was honorably discharged with recommendation for re-enlistment on April 8, 1962 a fact that he was quite proud of. It wasn't until several years later after overcoming many obstacles and working hard the whole way did Charles meet his wife Letha Mae Gregg a young woman from Paola where he became a caring husband on December 16, 1978 and then later was blessed with 4 children Beau, Andrew, William and Amanda Brixey. In his later years Charles could be seen as a simple man who liked the quiet and the outdoors. Hunting, fishing or drawing were some of his favorite hobbies, though you could find him sitting quietly under an old tree whittling contently while he whistled a tune on a slow day. Charles was preceded in death by his two parents and is survived by his two brothers, wife, children, and grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Paola Senior Apartments community complex, 451 S. Hospital Drive, Paola, KS, 66071.
