Charles “Chuck” Schoonover, 59, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Chuck was born June 11, 1958, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Charles C. and Norma Sue (Brown) Schoonover. He was a lifelong Franklin and Anderson County resident. He graduated from Central Heights High School with the class of 1976. Chuck was united in marriage to Toni Teter July 14, 1986 in Ottawa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his father, Charles Schoonover of Gardner; four children, Amanda Hulse (Charlie Casby) of Kansas City, Kansas, Joseph Schoonover (Michael Passen) of Garnett, Melissa Riemer (Missy Riemer) of Ottawa, and Nathan Schoonover of Richmond; sister, Cathy Middleton (Jontae Middleton) of Gardner; six grandchildren; niece, nephew, and a special friend, Rose Morton of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Schoonover; and brother, Christopher Schoonover. Chuck was employed as a mason for The International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers in Kansas City for twenty years. He worked many years alongside his father. Some of his work projects include the Walker Art Gallery and water fountain at the city square, in Garnett, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Detention Center and many Kansas City metro projects, including the Kansas Speedway. He was a member of the BAC Local Union #15 in Kansas City. Chuck was a very generous person, with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and the Demolition Derby.
