Charles Matthew Russell, age 88, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Brookdale Senior Living in Shawnee, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 9514 Perry Lane, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be held at 3:30 pm, at the Louisburg Cemetery.
Charley was born on November 19, 1934, in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was the oldest of four children to Joe and Goldie Russell. He grew up in the Saint Louis area, and graduated from Beaumont High School with the class of 1952.
Charley married the love of his life, Lois Gaal, on January 28, 1956, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Together they had five children, Ken, Mike, Sheri, Jill and Kathy.
Charley worked for Emerson Electric in Saint Louis, prior to moving to Houston, Texas in 1967. He worked for Singer Link (NASA) for a several years. Charley then sold life insurance for Aide Association for Lutherans (Thrivent Financial), from where he later retired.
After he retired, he enjoyed lawn work, reading, woodworking, and doing crossword puzzles. Charley was an avid member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church for many years. He loved Jesus Christ his Savior.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Goldie Russell, and one brother, Dan Russell.
Charley is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois Russell, two sons, Ken Russell and Mike Russell, three daughters, Sheri (Jim) Quade, Jill (Bill) Carlson, and Kathy (Bryan) Pasmore, nine grandchildren, John, Nicole, Gage, Quaid, Cori, Bristen, Whitney, Karleen and Wayne, seven great grandchildren, sister, Pat McCarthy, brother, Joe (Sandy) Russell, and sister-in-law, Betty Russell, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to the Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
