Charlene Christian Hollinger

Charlene Christian Hollinger, 91, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 in Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on January 1, 1927 in Wichita, Kansas, the first baby of the New Year, to Charles and Opal Parrott. Charlene grew up in Wichita. She graduated from Wichita North High School and went on to Wichita State University where she majored in education and met Chauncy Christian. Charlene married Chauncey on March 24, 1948. They had two children, Cheryl and Brad and raised their family in the Paola community. Charlene enjoyed teaching at many different schools in the surrounding districts. Charlene and Chauncey also built Lake-N-Dale in Hillsdale, Kansas in 1979. She managed Lake-N-Dale and was very fond of the Hillsdale community. Charlene was a very artistic and talented woman. She enjoyed arranging flowers and loved tap dancing. She traveled to London and Las Vegas to perform with the Moms on Taps dancing group. This was a great time in her life and she loved telling the stories. Charlene enjoyed getting her nails done, golfing, spending time with her granddaughters, watching and feeding the birds and substitute teaching after retiring. After Chauncey’s passing in 1999, she met and married Everett Kice in 2000 and they enjoyed traveling until his death in 2003. She met and married Boyd Hollinger in 2003 and they enjoyed each other’s companionship until Boyd’s death in 2008. Charlene had a contagious laugh and smile that could brighten any room. She was a social butterfly and loved visiting with others. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chauncey in 1999, and daughter Cheryl in 1987. She is survived by her son Brad Christian and wife Crystal Christian; granddaughters Kate Leonard, and Callie Smail and husband Justin; and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Morning Star Care Homes and Crossroads Hospice. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Charlene's Tribute Wall.
