Charity Butts, 79, of Ottawa, passed away, Sunday, November 21, 2021, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 29, 2021, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends at 10:00 A.M., Monday at Highland Cemetery prior to service hour. Charity was born September 18, 1942, in Ottawa, Kansas the daughter of Chester Jay and Frances Alberta (Dyer) Stewart. She grew up in Ottawa moving to Topeka for 5 years in the early 1960’s then moved back to Ottawa. Charity graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1960. She was united in marriage to Gary L. Butts July 26, 1965, in Salina, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2020. Charity was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include a sister, Jane Johnson of Ottawa, two nephews Doug Johnson (Angie) of Waverly and Bob Johnson (Jenna) of Ottawa; two great nieces, Morgan and Lindsey Johnson both of Waverly and two great nephews, Larson and Shayden Johnson both of Ottawa. Charity was an administrative assistant with Hercules Powder Company in DeSoto, Kansas in the 1960’s, Town & Country Supply in the 1970’s, a bookkeeper for Kansas Gas Service in the mid 1980’s to early 1990’s and an office assistant at Orscheln Farm & Home in Ottawa in 1990 retiring in 2013. She was a former member of the Centropolis Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Ottawa. Charity enjoyed watching KU Basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs.
