Cecily, along with her twin brother Bob were born on a beautiful Saturday, December 5, 1936, in Saint Louis, Missouri. She brought warmth and joy to the lives she touched. She was the cherished daughter of Robert Emmett and Lucille Elizabeth (Kelly) McConnell. Cecily's journey led her to Leawood, Kansas, where she attended Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kansas, graduating in 1955.
In a twist of fate, Cecily found love at Rockhurst College, where she worked as a secretary and met her soulmate, Robert “Bob” Lathrop. Their love story blossomed, and they exchanged vows on a sunny Saturday, August 9, 1958, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. Together, they embraced life's adventures, had 4 wonderful children and shared 52 wonderful years until Bob's passing. Over those years they moved a total of 24 times together, and she moved 4 more times on her own.
Cecily's spirit shone brightly through her love and kindness, touching the hearts of all who met her. She was a peacemaker, her greatest desire being the unity of her family. Cecily found joy in the simple pleasures of life - quilting, cross stitching, crocheting, playing mahjong, and the camaraderie of card games. With Bob by her side, she explored the country in their motorhome, creating cherished memories at ViewPoint RV and Golf Resort in Mesa, Arizona, with dear friends Jeanne and Bill Casey, Karen and Wayne Boxler and many others.
In her retirement, Cecily embraced the warmth of family, relishing moments with her loved ones, indulging in her favorite pastimes, and savoring the thrill of Jeopardy! matches and a Diet Coke. Her legacy lives on through her children: Tim (Sherry) Lathrop, Bob (Kelly) Lathrop, Pat Lathrop, and Kelly (Roger) Ames; her nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Lathrop, parents, Robert and Lucille McConnell, brother, Tim McConnell, and sister-in-law, Judy McConnell.
In honor of Cecily's compassionate spirit, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made payable to HCA Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
