Cecilia Reyes

Cecilia M. Reyes, age 86, of Garnett, Kansas, formerly of Ottawa, died Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. She was born on Thursday, September 10, 1924, in Ottawa, the daughter of Andres Martinez and Amada (Demis) Martinez. Cecilia was a lifelong Ottawa resident, moving to Garnett in 2006. She worked twenty-nine years as a nurse's assistant at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, retiring in 1988. Cecilia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Guild, and Christian Women's Club, all in Ottawa. On February 22, 1941, Cecilia was united in marriage with Lawrence Reyes in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1959. Survivors include; Son-Lawrence Reyes, Jr. of Garnett, Kansas; Son-George Reyes of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter-Mary Virginia Thompson and her husband, Ed, of Merriam, Kansas; Daughter-Andrea Reyes of Atchison, Kansas; Daughter-Rita O’Connor of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter-Elizabeth Kerr of Garnett, Kansas; Half-brother-Andres Martinez, Jr., and his wife, Helen, of Lawrence, Kansas; Half-brother-Frank Martinez and his wife, Martha, of Spring Hill, Kansas; Half-brother-John Martinez of Michigan City, Indiana; Half-Sister-Mary Knox and her husband, Bill, of Anchorage, Alaska; Half-sister-Ruth Romero and her husband, Tony, of Lawrence, Kansas; Half-sister-Susie Bermudez and her husband, Jessie, of Lawrence, Kansas; Grandchildren-Twenty-three; Gt.Grandchildren-Forty-seven and Gt.Gt.Grandchildren-Thirteen. She is preceded in death by, her parents, Andres and Amada Martinez ,son,Victor Dale Reyes, daughter, Loretta Reyes, and brother,Santiago Martinez. SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. IN STATE: Mrs. Reyes will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 Tuesday evening, followed by family and friends visitation from 7:00 to 8:00.
