Cecil D. Elliott, 87, of Pomona, Kansas, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 20, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the mortuary. Interment Evergreen Mound Cemetery, northwest of Ottawa, with military honors. Cecil was born Friday, May 10, 1929, in Stockton, Kansas, the son of Ora and Florence (Clark) Elliott. He lived in Ottawa from 1950, moving in 1996 to Pomona. Cecil served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1949. He also served in the Army Reserves for eight years. Cecil was united in marriage to Betty Law December 15, 1950, in Ottawa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his four children, Earlene Elliott of Tuscola, Illinois, Connie Wesch and husband Jim also of Tuscola, Stephen Elliott of Bush City, and Rita Demeter and husband Gyula “Joe” of Pomona; two brothers, Glen Elliott of Salina, and Ronald Elliott of Overland Park; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Florence Elliott; sister, Judy Brubaker; and brother, Buck Elliott. Cecil was employed with the Kansas Gas Service in Ottawa as a working foreman for 39 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked as a carpenter during and after his employment with the gas company. He was a former member of the Assembly of God in Ottawa, and was a member of the Ottawa Men’s Bowling Association. Cecil was devoted to his family, grandchildren and every child in the neighborhood. He enjoyed horseshoes, fishing and hunting. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Pomona United Methodist Church Food Pantry c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
