Carolyn Sue Firestone

Carolyn Sue Firestone, 76, of Baldwin City, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Miss Firestone will lie in state from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 4, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Carolyn was born December 4, 1941, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Heilman) Firestone. She was born and raised in Ottawa and was a longtime resident of Kansas City, Kansas. When Carolyn retired in 2016, she moved to Baldwin City. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1959; Ottawa University with a bachelor’s degree; and Kansas University with a masters. Survivors include her five siblings, Lynn Firestone and wife Janice of Topeka, Gerold “Punk” Firestone and wife Sharon of Harrisonville, Missouri, Denna Gilmore and husband Cecil of Lincoln, Missouri, Darby Wiseman and husband Frank of Wellsville, and Randy Firestone and wife Linda of Ottawa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Carolyn was employed as a special education teacher with the Topeka public schools. She taught many years in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia. She retired in 2016, from Century Labs as a credit manager. She was a member of the New Life Community Church in Gardner, and the Red Hat Society in Kansas City, Kansas. Carolyn loved being with family and was an avid shopper. She enjoyed the theater, dining out with close friends, 5K races and benefit walks.
