Carol Lee Gorton, 88, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Wellsville Health & Rehabilitation, Wellsville, Kansas.
A Memorial Service will be held 5:00pm, Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas, at a later date.
Carol was born Wednesday, November 13, 1935 in Le Loup, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas L. McMillen and Ruth Mildred (Barton) Luchinske.
She was a lifelong Franklin County and Ottawa resident graduating from Wellsville High School with the class of 1953.
Carol was married on June 16, 1956, in Ottawa, Kansas to Donald Ray Gorton. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2011.
She was employed with Bell Telephone as a telephone operator, with USD 290 in food services, as an assembler with Bendix-King for two years, at H.D. Lee working in quality control, and at Walmart as a door greater before retiring in the mid-2000s.
Carol was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Red Hatter Club.
She enjoyed sewing and crafts, playing BINGO, playing Kings Corners cards, and liked watching Hallmark movies. Carol was delighted to travel with Donald taking pleasure in seeing the mountains while in Colorado and appreciated viewing the vivid colors of the leaves changing with the seasons while traveling to Missouri and Arkansas. Carol especially loved visiting with family and friends and eating desserts.
Along with her husband Donald, Carol was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Luchinske; father Thomas McMillen; step-mother Eula McMillen; and step-brother Jimmy Lamb.
Survivors include son Barry Lee Gorton of Ottawa, Kansas; daughter Debbie Gorton-Swisher (Kevin Swisher) also of Ottawa, Kansas; sister Shirley Davidson of Platte City, Missouri; brothers-in-law Jack Porter (Nedra) of Ottawa, Kansas, and Stephen Porter (Janet) of Leawood, Kansas; sisters-in-law Dollie Porter of Torrance, California, Pattie Wait (George) of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Sharon Porter of North Carolina; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vintage Park and Wellsville Health & Rehabilitation for their amazing dedication and care, along with Dr. Gollier and nurse Tina.
