Carol L. Messick

Carol L. Messick, 87, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1710 Douglas Road, Princeton, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 17th at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Carol was born Sunday, January 26, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Karl “Oscar” and Eva R. (Creed) Blick. She grew up in the South Park, Merriam, Kansas area moving to Williamsburg, June 1, 1967 and Ottawa, in September 2015. She attended South Park High School in Johnson County, Kansas. Carol was united in marriage to Eugene J. Messick July 4, 1947, at Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Eva Blick; sisters, Phyllis Shelton, Martha Fisette and Pat Blick. She is survived by sons, Raymond Messick and wife Diane of Garnett, Kenneth Messick and wife Dorothy of Williamsburg, and Roy Messick and wife Terry of Ottawa; sister, Dorothy Hill of Kansas City, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Jenny Oberheide, Kevin Messick, Meredith Sayers, Sara Clary, Duane Messick, Raymond Messick, Carol Ann Brallier, Tiffani Majors, Sidney Messick, Jackie Thyer and Justin Messick; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one expected great-great-granddaughter, Lillian Rose. Carol was a devoted homemaker. She was a member of the Homewood Community Bible Church.
