Carl E. Thompson, Sr. was born on October 19, 1921, in Wallace County, Kansas. He was the son of Ira and Mable (Burruss) Thompson. Carl grew up in Wallace County, moving, as a young adult, to Princeton in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the age of eighty-four years. Carl was a lifelong carpenter, working for Hubbard Lumber, and he also worked on several jobs on his own. In 1995, Carl purchased the Richmond Lumber Yard, selling it in 2005. From August 1942 until January 1946, Carl served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Corporal. He earned the World War II Victory Medal. Carl loved country music, especially Bluegrass. He spent many a weekend out at a local concert enjoying some bands bluegrass beat. He was also an avid race car fan. He traveled to many local speedways to see the dirt track races. He loved to get caught up in the excitement the loud roaring engines would bring. Of all of his hobbies though professional wrestling was his favorite. Sure he always watched the nightly matches and knew who was going to wrestle who, but he really was excited to go see the matches live when the wrestlers came to the local area. He loved the rush of being a part of the crowd. Most important to Carl was his family. He loved them all dearly. In the early 1960's Carl was united in marriage with Leona Waddle. They were later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Thompson., and a sister, Carol Virginia Thompson. He is survived by two sons, Allen Thompson of Princeton and Carl Thompson of Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Lesa Carico of Brumley, Missouri, and Mary Harris of Arkansas; three step sons, Ronnie Kennedy of Ottawa, Randy Kennedy of Branson, Missouri, and Ray Kennedy of Osawatomie, Kansas; three sisters, Maxine Peed of Princeton, Bertha Morgan and Fern Johnson, both of Ottawa; a brother, Lawrence Thompson of Wichita; eighteen grandchildren , and one great grandchild. SERVICES: Graveside inurnment services will be held at Lane Cemetery, 3:00 p.m., Monday August 14, 2006.
