Calvin C. "Cal' Ewing, 94, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019. A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Cal was born January 22, 1925, in Padonia, Kansas, the son of James Roy and Doris Etta (Chase) Ewing. He has been a resident of Ottawa since 1958. Calvin graduated from Hamlin High School with the class of 1943 and attended a semester at Kansas University. He served in the United States Army with 610th Engineer Light Equipment Company in Rhineland in Central Europe, from June 20, 1944 until June 13, 1946, attaining the grade of Tec 5. He received the EAMET Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. Cal reentered the Army February 8, 1950, attained the rank of Private First Class and received the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged on March 16, 1953. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. Cal was the manager of the Employment Office in Ottawa for many years, retiring in 1991. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Etta Ewing; brothers, Edward Ewing and James V. Ewing and infant sister. Cal is survived by his sister-in-law, Roberta Ewing of Valrico, Florida.
