Bonnie Kay Smith, 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at The University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Hope Cemetery, Ottawa. Bonnie was born October 9, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Cecil and Ella (Curlee) McArdle. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1964. Bonnie later graduated from Cosmetology School in Topeka receiving a Board of Cosmetology license. Bonnie was united in marriage to Michael Ray Smith December 21, 1982 at Ottawa. They were happily married 38 years. She was a beautician for nearly 30 years. She became the owner/operator of Bonnie’s Beauty Boutique, later known as Bonnie’s Hair Styling, in Ottawa, from the 1970’s to 1980’s. Bonnie was a member of Ottawa Church of the Nazarene. Her hobbies included gardening, artwork, and cooking. Bonnie enjoyed her dogs and cats and loved being with her family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Joshua Michael Smith; parents, Cecil and Ella McArdle; brother, Marvin Lee McArdle, and sister, Donna Hartson. Survivors include her husband, Michael Ray Smith of Ottawa; three children, Shelly (Rick) Warner of Wichita, Randy (Amanda) White of Shawnee, Kansas, and Caitlin Rae Smith of Ottawa; two siblings, Charlene Powers of Littleton, Colorado, and Bud (Glenda) McArdle of Rogers, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Samantha Willhite, Brianna Garten, Mallory Iniguez, Joseph Willhite, and Taylor Brown; and eight great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
