Bobbie Gene “Bob” Robbins was born on Monday, October 31, 1927, in Hallowell, Kansas. He was the son of Harry Newton and Myrtle May (Forkner) Robbins. Bob grew up on the family farm in Labette County, Kansas, and lived in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas the past fifty years, until his death on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the age of eighty-two years. Bob graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont, Kansas, with the class of 1945, and attended the local branch of Purdue University. He farmed in the Oswego area until becoming an insurance agent for Farm Bureau, which he did for thirty-one years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed his memberships with First United Methodist Church; Ottawa Shrine Club; Ottawa Lodge #18, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons; and Ottawa Lions Club. Bob enjoyed being with his family and friends very much and especially liked sharing his love of fishing and golfing with them. He had a good sense of humor and was well known and loved in the community. Bob touched the lives of many with his caring and generous nature. He will be greatly missed. On Sunday, July 17, 1949, Bob was united in marriage with Marguerite Erwin in Altamont, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2001. He is also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and twin grandsons. He is survived by his son, Rob Robbins of Ottawa, Kansas; daughter, Bev Robbins of Ottawa, Kansas; son, Mark Robbins and his wife, Pamela, of Olathe, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Amanda Robbins, Sean Robbins, Britani Potter and her husband, David, Justin Gardner, Ciera Gardner, Marisa Robbins, Clare Robbins, Paige Robbins, Grace Robbins, Audrey Robbins; and two great-grandchildren, Lukas Potter and Logan Potter. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Masonic Services by Ottawa Lodge #18, A.F. & A.M. IN STATE: Mr. Robbins will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Monday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Oswego Cemetery in Oswego, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Bob Robbins Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
