Blanche E. Spencer

Blanche Elizabeth Spencer was born July 11, 1922, at Topeka, Kansas. She was the daughter of Archie Lee and Theresa (Pescalha) Handle. She grew up in Atchison, Kansas and lived for several years in her teens in Dogpatch, Arkansas (Marble Falls). She moved to Osawatomie in 1946 and Princeton in 1948, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at the age of seventy-nine years. Blanche attended schools in Atchison and Marble Falls. She was a lifelong homemaker. Before her marriage, she worked at Davey's Laundry in Osawatomie. She was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul, Kansas. In her younger days, she enjoyed sewing and dancing. She loved flowers and traveling, especially through the mountains. Her greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with her grandchildren. On January 20, 1948, Blanche was united in marriage with Roy Lee Spencer at Paola, Kansas. He survives of their home. Also surviving are her son, Jeff Spencer and his wife, Tami, of Wellsville; daughter, Becky Fitzgerald and her husband, Michael, of Princeton; brother, George Morgan of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters, Kristin Spencer, Mandy Moss; three grandsons, Michael Reyes, John Reyes, Caleb Reese; and four great-granddaughters, Brandy Sanders, Lillyth Hall, Mallory Moss, and Hannah Moss. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lula Bell Mitchell, Clara Bessie Welch; and brother, Clyde Howard Handle. Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2001. Pastor Richard Dunn. Mrs. Spencer will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Ruhamah Baptist Church or Franklin County Diabetes Unit, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
