Darlene Clough was born on Thursday, September 8, 1932, in Atchison, Kansas. She was the daughter of Carl and Mildred Blanche (Davey) Matthias. In 1967, Darlene moved from Burlingame, Kansas to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home until her death on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the age of seventy-five years. She graduated from Atchison High School with the class of 1950. Darlene worked over thirty years for Strehlow, Hadley & Philgreen Chartered as a receptionist and bookkeeper, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Ottawa. Darlene enjoyed being outdoors. She especially liked planting and caring for her flowers and lawn. She was an avid walker and reader. Above all, Darlene treasured her family and friends, in particular, the 'office girls' and their monthly luncheons. Darlene cherished her grandchildren and encouraged them in all their endeavors. On May 12, 1951, Darlene was united in marriage with Gene Clough in Buckeye, Arizona. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Naomi Wright Barker and Barbara Thomas. Mrs. Clough is survived by her son, Danny Clough of Ottawa, Kansas; two daughters, Gayle Bones and her husband, Kenneth, of Gardner, Kansas, Paula Mages and her husband, Tim, of Ottawa, Kansas; three brothers, Larry Matthias and his wife, Etta Mae, of Horton, Kansas, Garry Matthias and his wife, Dee, of Mounds, Oklahoma, Dave Matthias of Independence, Missouri; two sisters, Ruth Corkran and her husband, John, of Grandview, Missouri, Betty Moore of Ottawa, Kansas; three granddaughters, Sadye Mages, Anna Mages, Amy Bones; three grandsons, Cale Mages, Nathan Clough, Shawn Bones; and many nieces and nephews. Darlene will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the service. Graveside services and inurnment will be held at a later date. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Clough at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:30 to 8:30 Friday evening.
