Blaine B. Phillips, Jr., age 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012. He was born on Saturday, April 25, 1925, in Ottawa, the son of Blaine B. Phillips, Sr. and Gertrude (Gilliland) Phillips. He was a Wichita, Kansas resident for many years prior to retiring in Ottawa in 2004. Blaine graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1943 and Kansas State University from School of Journalism in the summer of 1949. He was sales manager for McGreevy’s Midwest Meat Co. in Wichita, Kansas, retiring in 2004. Earlier, he was a sales branch manager at Meadow Gold Dairies in Wichita, until the branch closed. He held other management positions with dairy companies in Topeka and Jacksonville, Florida. Blaine served in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Sgt. His tour of duty included Iceland. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa; lifelong member of Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism fraternity; Warren Black Post #60, American Legion; and Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. On Saturday, October 4, 1952, Blaine was united in marriage with Thecla “Tek” Kuley in Cincinnati, Ohio. She survives of their home. He is survived by his Wife – Thecla “Tek” Phillips of the home Daughter – Christine Young and her husband, Stephen, of Shawnee, Kansas Daughter – Julia Kirkwood of Lenexa, Kansas Son – Blaine “Skip” Phillips III and his wife, Tiffany, of Denver, Colorado Sister – Elaine Mustard of Leavenworth, Kansas Sister – Carol Fleming of Ottawa, Kansas Grandchild – Corbin Phillips of Denver, Colorado Grandchild – Jesse Kirkwood of Lenexa, Kansas Grandchild – Gina Kirkwood of Lenexa, Kansas Grandchild – Jared Kirkwood of Lenexa, Kansas Grandchild – Breanne Young of Shawnee, Kansas He is preceded in death by his: Parents – Blaine B., Sr., and Gertrude Phillips Brother – Dr. Paul Phillips SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012. ROSARY & VISITATION: A Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends visitation at 7:00. CEMETERY: Mt.
