Billie Mildred (Haines) Salyer, born June 14, 1918, daughter of John and Sophia (Kocher) Haines, and sister of Delores(Haines) Niimi, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the age of 99. She was the loving wife of Lelean Carl Salyer (Deceased) and the loved Mother of Dale Dean Salyer(D), Bennie Carl Salyer(D), M. Marie Dixon(D), Lela Ann McClanahan(D), Sharon Kay Rankin Paola, KS, Peggy Ruth David Osawatomie,KS, Ricky Scott Salyer Knob Noster, Mo and Linda Jane Pettigrew Bossier City, LA, 20 Grandchildren, 48 Great Grandchildren and 33 Great-Great Grandchildren. Last of the Pioneer Women, she grew up in Sedan KS. Going blind with cataracts at age 14, after her operation, she was left with scars on her eyes making her legally blind, seeing only shadows of gray to black. Cooking three meals a day on a wood stove for the crew that worked on the farm they lived on with no electricity in the house. She moved to Argentine, KS around 1950, moving again to the Louisburg/Bucyrus area around 1954. Getting a cornea operation in 1990 at age 78 she got to see colors she had not seen since she was 14. After her husband’s passing in 1997, she moved to Knob Noster, MO., staying her last three months in a care center. Beloved wife and mother, will truly be missed.
