Billie Elbert 'Bill' DeWald was born on Monday, January 27, 1936 in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Kenneth Eugene and Delores Effie (Kitts) DeWald. Bill was a lifelong Ottawa resident until his death on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at the age of seventy-one years. Bill attended Ottawa High School and later earned his G.E.D. He was a plumber by trade. He began his career with Durbin Plumbing in the 1960's. He had a master plumber's license and worked for various plumbing businesses over the years. He retired in 1998 from maintenance work at Osawatomie State Hospital after eleven years. Bill served with the United States Army in Germany in the early 1960's. He was an avid car enthusiast and repairman. He was always wanting to work on a car engine in his spare time. From rebuilding an engine to just tweaking a current engine, he was always ready to spend his time to get a car up and on the move. Bill was a proud man, who loved his family and the time he spent with them. In 1965 Bill was united in marriage with Connie Dempsay. They were later divorced. Bill married Vicki Miller Gretencord in 1977. They were later divorced. Bill is survived by two sons, Billy DeWald and Brian DeWald, both of Rantoul, Kansas; a brother, Kenneth 'Pete' DeWald and his wife, Ruth, of Ottawa; four sisters, Nathalee June Howard of Northglenn, Colorado, Marlene Evertson and her husband, Larry, of Brandenton, Florida, Cheryl Poole of Ottawa, and Barbara Milton and her husband, Ron, of Ottawa; and three grandchildren, Farren Preisner of Americus, Kansas, Josh DeWald and Bethany DeWald, both of Rantoul, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Beverly Joyce DeWald. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2007. IN STATE: Cremation is planned. CEMETERY: Evergreen Mound Cemetery. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer`s Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
