Bill G. Gatewood

Bill G. Gatewood, 84, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned. Inurnment Evergreen Mound Cemetery, Ottawa, will be held later. Bill was born Monday, January 9, 1933, in Greenway, Arkansas, the son of V.O. and Lucille (Brandon) Gatewood. He lived in Johnson County, Kansas, for many years moving in 1987 to Ottawa. He graduated from Piggott High School, Piggott, Arkansas, with the class of 1952. Bill was united in marriage to Katherine “Kathy” Hayden November 26, 1964, in Piggott. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents, V.O. and Lucille Gatewood; two sisters, Lawanda Crawford and Bonnie Sue Gatewood; and brother, Earl Gatewood. Survivors include his five children, Penny Davis and husband Steve of Eudora, Julie Driski of Overland Park, Billie Stowell and husband Mike of Williamsburg, Debbie Dietzel of Independence, Missouri, and Laurie Gatewood of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Don Gatewood of Ada, Oklahoma, and Danny Gatewood and wife Pat of Forrest, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Megan Baethke and husband Scott, Matthew Tennyson, Jonathan Davis, Margaret Stowell, Kathleen Stowell and Phillip Gatewood; and four great grandchildren. Bill was employed as a sales representative for Delden Manufacturing Company in Kansas City, Missouri, for over 20 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a farmer of crops and livestock for over 40 years. He was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Ottawa, and a member of the American Angus Association. Bill loved traveling to the southwest part of the country with his wife, enjoyed working with his livestock, was an active supporter of the Franklin County 4-H and enjoyed attending county fairs.
