Betty Oram

April 5, 1930 — April 1, 2013

Betty Lou Oram, age 82, of Drexel, Missouri, formerly of Paola, Kansas, died April 1, 2013 at her home. Betty was born April 5, 1930 at Paola, Kansas. She was the oldest of nine children born to Louellen and Nettie (Russell) McKinney. She graduated from Osawatomie High School. She continued her education after high school to obtain her license to become a nurse"s aide. She was united in marriage to Frankie Victor Oram on February 2, 1948 at Fort Scott, Kansas. They became the parents of six children. Betty had worked as a nurse"s aide in California and Paola. In 1955, the family moved from the Beagle, Kansas area to Santa Barbara, California. Betty traveled with her five children on a train with her sewing machine. Frank was anxiously waiting there for them. From Santa Barbara, they moved to Paradise Park, California and then Sisquoc, California. In 1963, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1964, they moved back to Paola, Kansas. Her current residence in Drexel, Missouri had been home for the past 20 years. Betty chose not to participate in any women"s groups as she wanted all her spare time spent with her family. She was active right along with her children in all their activities whether it was 4-H, boy scouts, vacation bible school, or sports. Against her wishes, she took a gun safety course with Frankie and Norma in support of her children. Even though she wasn't interested in taking the course, she became a good marksman. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Betty Lou, a son Frankie Victor Oram, Jr, a sister who died in infancy Twila May McKinney, and a brother LeRoy McKinney. She is survived by her husband Frank who was the love of her life for 65 years; her daughter-in-law Judy Oram of Cherryville, Kansas; her daughters Norma Kiser and her husband Jerry of Osawatomie, Peggy Oram of Garnett, Kansas, and Teresa Kilgore of Osawatomie; her son Thomas Oram and his wife Karen of Overland Park, Kansas; her sisters Delores White of Parker, Patricia Monroe of Goleta, California, Sharon Stewart of Osawatomie; her brothers Richard McKinney of Osawatomie, Rolla McKinney of Osawatomie, and Montie McKinney of Yellville, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
