Betty M. Prue, 88, of Richmond, Kansas died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Ottawa Retirement Village. Cremation is planned. Memorial service will be held at Richmond United Methodist Church, 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 22, 2013. The family will meet with friends following the memorial service. Private Inurnment at a later date. Betty was born on Wednesday, June 17, 1925 in Salina, Kansas. She was the daughter of Edward and Stella (Dewey) New. She was a near lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas. She graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1943. On April 14, 1947 Betty was united in marriage with Arthur Prue in Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1980. Survivors include her five children, Charles Prue of Richmond, Stephen Prue and wife Kim of Lawrence, Robert Prue and wife Diane of Kansas City, Missouri, Richard Prue of Joplin, Missouri, and Cynthia Prue of Richmond; sister, Roberta Bronson of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Allyson, Melynda, Andrew, Christopher, Brian, and Katie Prue; four great grandchildren, Dylan Behrens, Von Prue-Esparza, Lincoln Prue, and Miles Prue; six nieces and nephews, Janice Coombes, Alan Welch, John Donart, Delores Kiehl, JoAnn McGregor and Carman Dorsey. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Stella New; two sons, Kenneth and Thomas Prue; two sisters, Ada McGregor and Alice Pentecost; and brother, Charles New. Betty worked for the De Soto Ammunition Plant on the assembly line from 1943 to 1946 and Mode-O-Day, as a seamstress in the early 1950’s. She later worked for HD Lee, as a seamstress for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a member of the Richmond Library Board, and volunteered with the Richmond Senior Center.
