Betty M. Houdashelt, 80, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned. Memorial service will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 7:00 P.M., Monday, February 10, 2014. Betty was born on Wednesday, August 30, 1933 in Ottawa, the daughter of Harry and Mamie (Deshazer) Gibson. She has lived in Ottawa since 1968, moving from Gardner. She attended Brown School in rural Wellsville. On December 19, 1953 Betty was united in marriage with Clarence Houdashelt in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1998. Survivors include her daughter, Connie Wright of Edgerton; step-daughter, Sharon Kramer of Gardner; step-son, Clarence Houdashelt, Jr. of Gardner; two grandsons, Matthew Wright of Olathe, and Jeffery Wright of Eudora; two step-grandchildren, Tami Bartolomi of Kansas City, Missouri, and Christopher Hayes of Gardner; six great grandchildren; siblings, Ruby Wood of Ottawa, Nancy Strawder of Burlington, Kathy McCollum of Springfield, Virginia, and Beverly Jean Clayton of Wellsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry Gibson, and W. H. “Hoot” Gibson; and sister, Christine Potter. Betty worked at Dog Gone Pretty for five years, Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter for five years, and fourteen years at King Radio.
