Betty Lou Kirkland, 88 of Princeton, Kansas passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022, with her family by her side.
Services are planned for 2 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa with burial at Princeton Cemetery.
Family will meet with friends, Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the mortuary.
Betty was born June 12, 1934, at Fort Lupton, CO to Clarence Harvey and Ruby Marie (Brown) Morrow.
Betty’s family moved from Colorado to Kansas in 1946. She lived in Franklin County settling in Princeton, KS in 1967.
Betty was united in marriage to Dean Kirkland on December 13, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
She was employed at Mode-O-Day, Richmond Nursing Home, Ransom Memorial Hospital from 1973 to 1999 and City of Ottawa from 2004 to 2008.
She was a member of the Princeton Christian Church and was the former president of the Kansas Hospital Housekeepers Association.
Surviving are her three children, Kathy and Casey Jones of Princeton, Marlene Kirkland of Ottawa and Randy and Cindy Kirkland of Princeton; three grandchildren, Curt Watson of Princeton, Tonya Lankard of Princeton and RD and Hollie Kuiken of Ottawa; nine great-grandchildren, Demeree and Dakota Pendleton, Sophee and Tucker Lankard, Breck Watson, Addison, Kaegan, Tatum and Judson Kuiken and one great-great grandchild, Briggs Morris; one sister, Carol Welton of Ottawa; two sisters-in-law, Mary Morrow and Cecilia Kirkland and many nieces and nephews.
Betty loved family gatherings, cooking Sunday dinners and rocking all her grandbabies. She didn’t know a stranger and was known for her kindness and taking care of others. What she will really be remembered for is her great big embracing hugs.
