Betty L. Scott, 92, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at AdventHealth Ottawa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a visitation for family and friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Betty was born Friday, October 5, 1928 at Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde and Letha (Pearson) Wertz-Hughes. She was a lifelong resident of the Ottawa and Pomona, Kansas area. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1946 and Central Business College in Kansas City, Missouri. Betty was united in marriage with Norman E. Scott April 4, 1954 at Pomona, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Clyde Hughes Jr., Larry Hughes and Billy Hughes and son-in-law, Jack Goad. Survivors include her children, Paul Scott and his wife, Denise of Deridder, Louisiana, Rebecca Goad of Pomona, Kansas, Norman R. “Randy” Scott of Ottawa, Kansas and Michael E. Scott of Ottawa, Kansas; grandchildren, Tarra Rondeau, Erick P. Scott, Jeff Goad, Jarrod Scott, Emily Scott, Dana Salazar, Michael J. Scott, Jed Scott and Kaydence Barrett; sister Carol McClure of Kansas City, Kansas, sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Betty worked from 1946 to 1948 as secretary to the president of RKO Theater Production Company, which was owned by Howard Hughes, about five years as secretary to the Ransom Memorial Hospital administrator, a couple years at Sunflower Ammunition Plant, later almost twenty years as cashier at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, retiring in 1996. She also helped her husband in their construction business as a bookkeeper. She was very active taking her kids to scouts and other activities and active in HDU and loved collecting ladies’ head vases. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa and a member of the Altar Society. She held offices in BPW, helped with Boy Scouts, was a past officer of the Rebekah Assembly of Kansas, a Silver Haired Legislator for Franklin County for several years, a life member of VFW Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary and the Night Crawlers Camping Group.
