Betty Jo Reeves, 86, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 29, 2017, at North Baptist Church, 413 W. Wilson, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Kansas. Betty was born Sunday, May 17, 1931, in Gadsden, Alabama, the daughter of Fred and Charlotte (Hicks) Feather. She lived at Carthage, Missouri; Overland Park and Baldwin City, moving to Ottawa in 1974. She attended school in Carthage, graduating from high school in 1949. Betty was united in marriage to Larry Miffleton, Sr. in 1953. They later divorced. She married LeRoy Reeves August 16, 1975 in Ottawa. He preceded her in death November 25, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Charlotte Feather; brother, John Feather; sisters, Dorothy Spurgeon, Barbara Revel and Beverly Sweezy; stepson, Samuel Reeves Buhrle; and stepdaughter, Penny Reeves. Survivors include her son, Larry Miffleton and wife Belva of San Antonio (Schertz), Texas; daughter, Jamie Stout and husband Wayne of Baldwin City; step children, Becky Reeves of Ottawa and Annette Mullin and husband Gene of Lawrence; seven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Betty was employed at King Radio for 19 years, retiring February 7, 1993. In 1994, she began working at McDonalds in Ottawa, retiring July 1, 2005. The Ottawa Herald recognized Betty as the McDonald’s lady who made happy mornings for many. She was a member of North Baptist Church serving as a deaconess, was on the board of education as well as Sunday school superintendent. Betty was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901 Auxiliary, was a life member of VFW, and the Oasis Club.
