Betty Jean (Reser) Wells was born June 2, 1930, north of Rossville, Kansas. She was the daughter of Ervin E. and Minnie L. (Holz) Reser. Betty grew up in St. Mary's, Kansas, moving to Baldwin, Kansas in 1965, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the age of seventy-three years. Betty worked as a housekeeper at Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, from 1989 until retiring in 1992. She worked as a restaurant cook from 1969 until 1973, the Baldwin Locker Plant from 1973 until 1976, and Ford IGA from 1979 until 1989. Betty greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and especially loved their holiday gatherings. She liked to watch country western music shows on T.V. and was an expert in word search books. She also enjoyed going for rides, especially through the country. In 1964, Betty was united in marriage with Jim Wells in Wyoming. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents. Betty is survived by her stepson, Jimmy Wells of Jacksonville, Florida; stepdaughter, Mary Lynne Holly of Topeka, Kansas; sister, Lola M. Stevanus and her husband, Bob, of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, Roy W. Reser and his wife, Mary Ann, of St. Mary's, Kansas; two nieces; and, four nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Piper Funeral Chapel, St. Mary`s, Kansas, at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004. OFFICIANT: Pastor Andrew McHenry IN STATE: Mrs. Wells will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday, and Piper Funeral Chapel, St. Mary`s, after 3:30 p.m. Friday, where family will meet with friends 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. CEMETERY: Rossville Cemetery in Rossville, Kansas.
