Betty Jane Prentice

February 26, 1923 — April 18, 2003

Betty Jane Prentice was born February 26, 1923, at Welda, Kansas. She was the daughter of Alanzo A. and Mable Loraine (Martin) Hendrickson. A lifelong resident, Betty made her home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until her death Friday, April 18, 2003, at the age of eighty years old. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1941. She was a member of Assembly of God and past member of Beauceant and Christian Women's Club of Ottawa. Mrs. Prentice was a lifelong homemaker. She worked in Kansas City during World War II and was co-owner and operator of Reno Locker Plant from 1945 to 1958. Betty was a kind and outgoing lady who never met a stranger. She greatly loved and enjoyed her family and visiting with her many friends. She loved nature and enjoyed watching the nature channels on T.V. and also liked watching the game shows and working crossword puzzles. On October 25, 1945, Betty was united in marriage with Max Eugene Reneau at Olathe, Kansas. They were later divorced. On August 2, 1969, she was united in marriage with Lloyd Francis Prentice at Emporia. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her daughter, Margaret Louise 'Peggy' Santarpia and her husband, Craig, of Liberal, Kansas; son, Gene Reneau, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Emporia, Kansas; two stepdaughters, Nyoka Louise 'Nicki' Soper of Gardner, Kansas, Marla Drumright and her husband, David, of Ottawa; stepson, Bruce Prentice and his wife, Diane, of Ottawa; eleven grandchildren; and, five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Earl Hendrickson, Lonnie Hendrickson, Arland Velmore Hendrickson; three sisters, Lela Hotaling, Beverly Massingale and Shirley Eudora Ball. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Glen Yancey. IN STATE: Mr. Higdon will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Kansas Dialysis Services in Ottawa, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
