Betty I. Lambert, 86, of Baldwin City, Kansas died on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Baldwin City, Kansas. She was born on Thursday, August 3, 1922, in Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of David L. and May E. (Hanna) McGee. Betty was a lifelong Ottawa resident, moving to N. Sycamore Street in April of 1946, following her husband's military career, where they made their home fifty-seven years. In 2006, she moved to Baldwin City. Betty graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1941. She worked nineteen years in food service for Ottawa USD 290 before retirement. Earlier, she worked for the telephone office; F.W. Woolworth; North American Aviation in Kansas City, Missouri, as a riveter on planes during World War II; sold Stanley Products, Avon, Tupperware, Jewelry and Crystal, and loved to hold parties. She was also in charge of the Franklin County U.S.O. Overseas Food Coupon Support Group. Betty attended North Baptist Church and was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post # 5901 Auxiliary, both of Ottawa. She held various offices, including president of the local Auxiliary as well as president of the 2nd District Auxiliary. Betty was lady of various talents and skills. She loved to crochet and paint crafts. She was well known for sending cards and notes to loved ones. Lunch with classmates of the class of 1941 was a favorite event of her daily life. She also loved to read her bible daily and faithfully prayed for her family and friends. Most important in her life was her loving family. She was a wonderful wife, even more incredible mother, and a loving grandmother. Her imprint on her families’ heart will forever be carried on. On August 23, 1941; Betty was united in marriage with Roy W. Lambert in Wellsville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2003. She is also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie James. Betty is survived by three daughters; Dixie Farrell of Lawrence, Kan., Shirley Glass & her husband, Max, of Olathe, Kan., Patty Bunch & her husband, Tom, of Ottawa, Kan.; five grandchildren , Julie Tesmer, Michele Rutledge, Hollie Carrender, Tiffany Blecha, Tim Bunch; Eleven great grandchildren; A brother-in-law-Harvey Lambert and his wife, Lois, of Tampa, Florida; and A Sister-in-law-Evelyn Starbuck and her husband, Jim, of Topeka, Kan. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 10:00a.m Friday, November 21, 2008 at North Baptist Church, Ottawa. INSTATE: Mrs. Lambert will lie instate at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 10:00a.m. Thursday until the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 Thursday evening.
