Betty was born December 13, 1917 at 1515 Appleton Avenue in Independence (Englewood), MO, the second child of John Calvin Moyer Sr. and Clara Elizabeth Corbin. She and her brothers and sister were raised to adulthood in Englewood. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Joseph Chatfield, Sr., "Curly" on June 19, 1992; and her brothers and sisters Alvirda Marie "Berta" Moyer Conklin (Dave) of Alexandria, LA, March 26, 2005; Riley Corbin "Corbie" Moyer (Geraldine Evans) of Sugar Creek, MO on December 11, 2008; and John Calvin "Johnny" Moyer (Jeanette Webster) of Henderson, NC on July 5, 1991; and four half brothers and sisters: Julius Carl Moyer (Cecil Hatfield) on March 29, 1980; Earl Hammond Moyer on December 10, 1942; Ellen Katherine Moyer Palmer (Charles) on December 23, 1986 and Glenna Mae Moyer McGinnis (Bill) on September 11, 1973. Betty graduated from Northeast High School in Independence, MO in 1936. During World War II, Betty took part in the war effort and moved to Long Beach, CA to work in the shipyards. There, she met her future husband Curly, and they were married on May 4, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA. After the war, they returned to Independence, MO where they lived for a short while, then later moved to Raytown, MO, and finally to Cleveland, MO in 1961 where they lived on a farm the rest of their years together. Curly passed away at their home on June 13, 1992. Although Betty was more than busy caring for her large family, she still found time to sew, quilt, embroidery, and crochet, and was an avid reader who also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She loved all animals, particularly her beloved cats and dogs, and enjoyed shopping at flea markets and antique stores. Above all, Betty will always be remembered as a most loving Mother, and we will so miss her. She had nine children, three of whom died at birth: Silas and Donald (twins) and Timothy. Her surviving children include Michael John of Blairstown, MO; Lowell James (Sherry) of Cleveland MO; Joanne Elizabeth Chatfield of Boulder, CO; Kenneth Joseph, Jr. (Marla) of Cleveland, MO; Clara Marie Chatfield Hocker of Chicago, IL and Donald Jerome of Drexel, MO, as well as seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. We thank the wonderful and caring staff at Foxwood Springs, and the unbelievable nurses with Good Shepherd Hospice.
