Bethel Irene Barnes, 76, of Gardner, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, at her home.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2022 at Dengel & Son Mortuary-Crematory, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071.
Bethel was born Monday, June 17, 1946, in Smith Center, KS, the daughter of Ray and Hazel (Grabast) Fiero.
Bethel was united in marriage to Wayne Barnes. He preceded her in death at the young age of 32 on November 21, 1986.
She worked at the Norton State Hospital and Osawatomie State Hospital as a dietician for many years.
Bethel enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, word searches, watching TV, and a good meal. First and foremost, she was happiest with the time spent with her family. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a huge Elvis fan and had a major crush on Patrick (Mahomes).
She was a member of the Osawatomie Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Osawatomie Senior Center preparing Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ray Fiero and Hazel (Grabast) Nelson and her siblings Regis Curl, Boyd Muhsmann, and Dean Muhsmann.
Survivors include son Michael Barnes of Gardner and daughter Angela Douglas of Gardner, two sisters Rita Edgar of Council Bluffs, IA and Denise Fry of Tecomah, WA; four grandchildren Michael, Tyler, Tanner, and Cody; 4 great grandchildren Landon, Avaleigh, Elliana, and Tanner "Little Man" and another one on the way due to arrive in June of 2023; many other relatives and friends.
