Bertha Catherine Magee was born September 18, 1921, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Carl and Elsie Elizabeth (Smith) Richardson. Bertha lived in Ottawa, Wichita and Garnett, before moving to Monett, Missouri in October of 1995, where she made her home until her death Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at the age of eighty-one years. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1941. For thirty-seven and one-half years, she did placement interviews for the Kansas State Employment Service. She was a twenty-year member of Business Professional Women and forty-five year member and Past Noble Grand of Hazel Rebekah Lodge #175, both of Ottawa. Bertha was an expert seamstress, as well as making lovely crocheted items. She enjoyed baking and was known at Creason-Tawney for her delicious cakes. Bertha and her husband had fun working on crafts together. She was a loving wife and aunt who loved her nieces and nephews as her own. Bertha was an outgoing, kind lady who enjoyed people and would do anything for anyone. In November of 1965, Bertha was united in marriage with Ralph M. Loyd at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1986. On March 31, 1987, she was united in marriage with Richard Magee at Wichita. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her brother, Reed Richardson and his wife, Carol, of Garnett, Kansas; three sisters, Madge C. Womack of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Ada E. Welton of Lutz, Florida, Mazie F. Maxey of Raytown, Missouri; and, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. David George. IN STATE: Mrs. Magee will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 4 to 5:00 Sunday evening. CEMETERY: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to American Heart Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
