Bernice M. Smith, 93, of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Olathe Health Hospice House. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A rosary will be said at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends’ visitation at 6:30 P.M. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Williamsburg. Bernice was born January 15, 1926, in Belpre, Kansas, the daughter of Charley and Mary (Spacil) Scheufler. She lived in Lyons, Kansas moving in 1956 to Williamsburg. She graduated from Belpre High School with the class of 1944. Bernice was united in marriage to Dale Smith November 23, 1948, in Belpre. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Paul Scheufler; two sisters, Thelma Negley and Josephine Fisher; grandson, Craig Campbell; and son-in-law, Ralph Ferguson. Survivors include two children, Doug Smith and wife Paula of Williamsburg and Sandi Ferguson also of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, Kimberly Sue Weers of Princeton, Jay Dee Weers and wife Kimberly Dawn of LeRoy, Casey Smith and fiancé Julie Burdick of Garnett, and Kristin Walters and husband Jacob of Baldwin City; four great-grandchildren, Cody Maloney and wife Bethany of Emporia, Colin Maloney of Princeton, Weston Weers of LeRoy, and Josie Weers also of LeRoy; four step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; thirteen step great-great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Scheufler and wife Marjory of Belpre; sister-in-law, Jeanie Scheufler of Chandler, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernice was a devoted lifelong homemaker and co-owner and operator of Smith’s Snack Bar in Williamsburg from 1967 to 1992. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She loved spending time with her family, playing Solitaire, and getting her hair done every Thursday.
