Bernice grew up in Clay Center, Kansas, moving to Topeka, Harveyville, and Osage City. In September of 2000, she moved to Ottawa. She graduated from Clay Center (Kansas) High School with the class of 1923. Bernice worked as a receptionist at a doctor`s office, helped her husband at his car dealership, and, at one time, managed an apartment house in Topeka. While she was in school, she worked at a dime store in Clay Center. Bernice was a member of the Methodist Church and active with her husband in Shrine and Moose activities, and volunteered with underprivileged people. Her door was always open to anyone needing a place to stay. Bernice was united in marriage with Ivan Nixon Hemphill. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1990. She was united in marriage with Henry Ross `Bud` Fields in 1954. He preceded her in death . SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from the Harveyville United Methodist Church 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005. IN STATE: Mrs. Fields` body has been cremated. INURNMENT: Harveyville Cemetery in Harveyville, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
