Bernard C. Smith

Bernard C. Smith, age 71, of Ottawa, Kansas died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his home. He was born onAugust 25, 1942 in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Walkin C. and Elma J. Klein. Funeral services will be held at Dengel Son Mortuary, 6:30P.M., Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Cremation will follow the service. Private burial of cremains will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. He attended Kansas Deaf School from 1949 to 1950 and re-enrolled in 1954. Survivors include his sister Bonnie Gregory of Wichita, Kansas, and his friends at C.O.F. . Bernard is preceded in death by his parents Walkin C. and Elma J. Smith. He has been associated with C.O.F. Training Services since November 16, 1973 to the present. Bernard was a cancer survivor and a proud participant in the Kansas Special Olympics. He was a member of Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America Troop #505. Bernard will be remembered as a kind and caring person who loved children, animals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He will be missed by all who knew him.
