Benjamin Ferd Sturgill, 97, Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa. Ferd, as he was known, was born July 5, 1914 in a log cabin in Mountain City, Tennessee to Benjamin and Cora Dollar Sturgill. He owned and operated S & S Concrete for 30 years. He was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Eva Sturgill and Wilma Gritton and four grandchildren He is survived by his wife of 71 years Carol (Slater) Sturgill; five daughters, Mary Jakse, Lee"s Summit, MO, Betty Parker, Mansfield, AK, Bonnie White, Belton, MO, Dorothy Navara, Del Rio, TX and Vicky Sturgill, Overland Park, KS; one brother, James Sturgill, Aledo, Ill.; one sister, Irene Negley, Wilmington, Delaware; ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Ferd Sturgill Memorial Fund in care of Elm Grove Baptist Church.
