Barbara Jean Workman

Barbara Jean Workman, 82, of Paola, Kansas, passed away on January 1, 2024 surrounded by her family.

She was born on Monday, July 14, 1941, to Earnest J. and Minnie M. (Barber) Walker in Kansas City, Kansas.

A memorial mass will be held on January 16, 2024, at 10:00 am, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola, Kansas.

She was united in marriage on November 3, 1956, to Henry L. Workman. They shared 67 years together. Henry preceded Barbara in death on June 11, 2023.

Barbara retired from the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District 500 after 26 years as a bus driver. She and Henry made their home in Kansas City for 63 years and then moved to Paola where they have lived for the last 19 years.

She enjoyed cooking and crocheting. Barbara was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Brandon Workman, great granddaughter, Madison Chaffin, brothers, Ernest Jr., Fred, and Lawrence Walker, as well as a sister, Minnie “Tiny” Roberts.

Barbara is survived by her children Deborah Jennings (Terry) of Mesa, Arizona, Cynthia Lowe (Gary) of Edwardsville, Kansas, Michael Workman (Kathy) of Mound City, Kansas, and Joleena Chaffin (Daniel) of Olathe, Kansas; brother, Gerard Walker; sisters, Beverly Folsom, Loretta Caldwell, Odelia “Susie” Theel, and Loraine Knipp; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
