B. Maxine Griffin, 94, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. Maxine was born Wednesday, December 1, 1920, in Williamsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Frank Jacob and Susie Ethel (Thornbrugh) Sweetwood. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident moving from Williamsburg to Ottawa in the mid 1950s. She graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1938. Maxine was united in marriage with Donald J. Griffin October 28, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death March 28, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Mable Drum, Maudie Sutton and Carie Bush; two brothers, Bill Sweetwood and Ernest “Bub” Sweetwood; step-grandson, Kevin Wheat; and great-grandson, Eric Finch. Survivors include her daughter, Janice Nichols and husband Kenneth; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren. She was employed and retired from King Radio working in assembly from 1972 to 1982. After her retirement she cared for children in her home.
