August E. Tersiner, 94, of Wellsville, Kansas, died Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Wellsville Retirement Community.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 6, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa followed by family visitation.

Private inurnment Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.

August was born Wednesday, August 8, 1928, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Mary (Costello) Tersiner.

He lived twenty-six years in Pittsburg, Kansas and then in Ottawa, Kansas until moving to the Wellsville Retirement Community in June 2019.

He attended Yale School in Pittsburg, Kansas and later earned his General Equivalency Degree in 1986 in Ottawa, Kansas at the age of fifty-eight years.

August was united in marriage with Kathleen Manion June 8, 1950, in Pittsburg, Kansas. She preceded him in death November 10, 2010.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Tersiner; son, James J. Tersiner, he was the youngest of eight, brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his daughters, Jean Nilges (Lynn) of Ottawa and Annette Burnett (Dannie) also of Ottawa; grandchildren, Gabe Mace (Meghan) of Ottawa and children, Tucker and Maylee; Fawn Plummer (Mario) and children, Cira, Mateo, Rya and Damianne of Lebo, Kansas; Abbi Cobbs of Ottawa and children, Casey and Shelby; Megan Melby and children, Bentley, Lillian, Braylon and Lyla of Belleville, Kansas.

August worked as a kiln burner for Buildex, Inc. in Ottawa until the business closed and as custodian/maintenance at Ottawa University until retirement.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union and United Steel Workers Union, holding various offices over the years.

He enjoyed playing cards, grilling, doing yard work, gardening, and helping his family.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Wellsville Health and Rehabilitation Activity Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
