Asa Albert Smith, age 65, of Ottawa, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on Monday, July 24, 1944, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Clarence “Hap” and Eula (Edwards) Smith. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. Asa attended Ottawa schools. He was employed at Hyer Boot of Olathe, Heathman Oil and Ottawa Truck. He also had various jobs in the trucking industry, including Bones Transportation, Earl Heckman Trucking, Tollie Freightways, and TransAm, where he was a drivers’ trainer. He was currently employed at Cain Trucking. Asa was a Christian and attended various local churches. He was a past member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and a local radio-controlled fliers club. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his biker friends. More recently, he filled his spare time at his computer and listening to country music. He is survived by many friends, old and young, who will miss him. He is preceded in death by his: Father-Clarence “Hap” Smith; Mother-Eula (Edwards) Smith. IN STATE: Mr. Smith will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.
