Arthur Glen 'Art' Miller, Jr. was born to Arthur Glen and Ruby (Rolland) Miller on Saturday, February 3, 1934 at Cherryvale, Montgomery County, Kansas. He grew up in Independence, Kansas, moving to Wichita after his military service. In 1959 he moved to Ottawa, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, September 26 , 2007. He graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1952. He also attended Independence Community College and after his military service, graduated from Wichita Business School Art worked as a bookkeeper for Minnick Motors, White Motors, and Johnson Auto Parts, and as a bus driver for USD 290, Charter Coaches, and Jefferson Bus Line. From 1995 until 1998, he owned and operated Art Miller Tours and for over twenty years had Art`s Tax Service. He later worked as a desk clerk for Comfort Inn in Ottawa. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 unto 1956, attaining the rank of IC3 as a Communications Operative aboard the USS Coral Sea. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Art was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the finance committee, as treasurer and as head usher. He was also a member of the Oxford Service Forum Sunday School Class, Ottawa Lodge #803 Benevolent and Protective Order Elks, Ottawa Promenaders, Warren Black Post #60, American Legion, Power of the Past, a former Jaycee, a Chamber of Commerce member, a life member of Sertoma Club. He was formerly a member of the Pride Committee and REACT and volunteered with AARP and instructed their driving classes On July 21, 1957, Arthur was united in marriage with Peggy McKain at Independence, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by a daughter, Glenda Guge and her husband, Scott; four brothers, Dale Miller and his wife, Pat, of Birmingham, Alabama, Frank Miller and his wife, Sue, of Bellevue, Washington, Fred Miller and his wife, Jennie, of Paola, Kansas, and Gary Miller of Sacramento, California; granddaughters, Sarah R. Guge, Holly K. Guge, and Emma L. Guge, grandson, Parker J. Guge; niece, Tayler A. Guge, and many other nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa, 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2007. IN STATE: Mr. Miller will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after noon Thursday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Mt.
