Ardyth Rice

Ardyth Jean Rice, age 76, of Osawatomie, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Family will meet with friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Living Proof Church, 32401 Harmony Road, Paola, Kansas, 66071 followed by the funeral services at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS, 66071. Private burial at a later date in Osawatomie Cemetery. Ardyth was born Saturday, March 30, 1946, in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of Ardith and Eva Jo (Klopp) Horttor. She attended school in Blue Mound and graduated from Blue Mound High School. She was united in marriage to Merwin Brooks Rice on July 30, 1966, in Blue Mound, Kansas. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of three children James, Aaron, and Angela. Ardyth worked as a licensed mental health technician at the Osawatomie State Hospital for over 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting and making Christmas ornaments. She made many baby blankets for family and friends. She could always be found on the sidelines cheering on her children and in later years grandchildren during their sporting activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Merwin who died May 20, 2022, one granddaughter Madison Rice, a brother Carl Horttor, and a sister Evalyn Stites. Survivors include two sons James (Andrea) Rice of Nampa, ID and Aaron (Angel) Rice of Linn Valley, KS; daughter Angela (Chuck) Weiss of Lebo, KS; six grandchildren Austin (Ashleigh) Weiss, Misty Weiss, Dylan (Addie) Rice, Colton Rice, Nichole Rice, and Conrad Rice; one great grandson Theodore Weiss; her brother Dee Horttor (Kathleen) of Blue Mound; one sister Carol Cowel (Delbert) of Valley Center, Kansas; many other relatives and friends.
